1840 
American New Yorker, Alexander Wolcott, with the assistance of John Johnson, are the first to receive a patent for their daguerre type camera on May 8, 1840 in america. Wolcott also opened a "Daguerran Parlor" in New York, which is considered to be the earliest known photography studio.
