Have you found the sites features of Interest

What is the main reason that you joined the club and hoped to get out of membership?

comment: Many reasons provided, but the basic reason seems to be" to meet people with a similar interest and discuss":

  • Camera collecting is addictive. we need to share info To communicate with other colelctors.
  • To identify old cameras
  • It corresponds to my research work on early Australian photography To identify old cameras, searching but without success unfortunatelly
  • 30 years of interest and vocation in the repair and restoration of them cameras.
  • I was looking for a dialog about rare collectible cameras on a personal level. Unfortunately the number of individual members is small and this dosn't allow easily for such a dialog.
  • Interest in collectable cameras
  • To communicate with other collectors.
  • To find other collectors who can help me with restorations andinfo on cameras I don't know about. Also to find people who buy and sell parts and cameras
  • Value estimates on cameras
How many times do you access the HC web site per week?

Average access is 1.916 per week, Site statistics indicate individuals visit about 4.58 pageviews per visit.

Are you enjoying membership?

What do you like the best about being a member

  • It's an honor to be included in such an impressive list.
  • Get to know collectors world-wide
  • Lots of information
  • Access to information
  • Knowing new entries specially I am looking from 1839 upto 1900 not later
  • to new to know, yet the feeling of belonging to a group with the same interests.
  • Information and access to other sites
  • Get to know collectors world-wide
  • I'm a new member, so I haven't participated much yet, but I've used the verical search engine links fairly extensively and found the Classic Camera Repair Forum where I've both gotten and given advice/help.

What are you biggest complaints ?

  • don't like pop-up windows - (comment: I will try to fix this. Right now I have a java that only comes up once a browser sessoin. I have a java script that will set a cookie for a week or two to minimize the occurance of the pop up for returning members)
  • Not finding my subject I am collecting to refer to compare to have an idea what are worth (comment: As the survey shows most members are like you interested in reference information. Please submit requests to the bulletin board or send them to me. I will do my best to help and add as much as I can, and all members can help by submitting white papers or scans of information)

What other features would you like or have more of?

  • A membership list for all to see. Without e-mail addresses to avoid spams. (Comment: We have a members list in the Address book when you search on the members category or at the bottom of the home page there is a button. Each members home page has a feature to email the member privately so that no one can see your email address. MEMBERS LIST CLICK HERE
  • More user information, type and speed of older films (1909-1935) (comment: we have some info on film in the history LIBRARIUM that indicate year manufactured to date cameras by type of film at CLICK HERE , but we need more I will look around to see what I can find.)
  • More descriptive text and photographic items other than cameras such as studio props. (Comment: I have lots of info on studio props and will begin to archive some of it into the librarium)
  • My personal interest is in the design of the mechanics of the cameras and shutters. I will in the future submit several articles
  • I would like to receive e-mails from other members, preferably collectively, like I do on IDCC. (internet Directory of Camera Collectors). (Comment: I agree that our club needs to improve communications for our membership. I have started looking into this, but it initially looks complicated. There are three programs to do this , majordomo, listserv and mailman. I would like to find one that avoids all the garbage that is found in some of the other email postings. I will keep you posted on progress, thanks for the comment)
  • More galleries of a more diverse collection (comment: I need some help on this one from members. Special thanks to LuvAntiques who has paved the way with sharing some of his fantastic collection in the members photo gallery. I hope others will eventually share their collections and interests too.)

Do you think the new member pricing is a good value

Will you renew your membership next year?

Do you like or use ...

(Comment: I was surprised to see that many either did not use or like the home page . I also got a comment that they did not know how to access or change the home page, so I would guess others have the same question. The instructions were in the introductory club letter. If you do not like having your name out for everyone to see, your home page can be deleted if so desired. You can do it once you login, there is a button to delete or I can do it upon request. Here is the instructions for accessing your home page, if you need more info just drop me a line :

HOME PAGE: Login into your own home page home page at: http://www.historiccamera.com/login.html
-There is a control panel that you can make changes and upload up to three photos (logo + two) as often as you would like. We recommend that you add a photo of your self so other members can see who they are writing to. You can access your page from the historic camera home page at the "login" near the address book button or at the bottom of address book page http://www.historiccamera.com/addressbook.html
- You can mail your link out to friends or club members. Your link will be
http://www.historiccamera.com/club/your_user_name
- your home page and others has a private email system. Others can email you with out knowing your email address and you can email other member from your home page.)

(Comment: I try to minimize the amount of email I send out. Besides I do have a life and am busy so it is not possible to send allot. To accommodate those who do not like to get email. I can set up two email programs to deliver club information. One to announce the quarterly newsletter and one for web site updates. In the future, you will have the option of opting out or into the mail lists at any time)

Other suggestions/ comments?

Keep up the good work. (Comment: thanks allot, I can't tell you how much your inputs have helped, both for giving me insight into what you what you are interested in and for motivating me to continue and build on where we stand today)
