Folding Instantograph Camera

The Folding Instantograph Cameras were manufactured by J. Lancaster & Son from approximately 1894 to 1898. Designed as a very portable camera with two distinct styles, a leather covered version and an all wood version. The leather version was similar in shape to the Ladies camera, however it is a front focusing camera, where the ladies camera is rear focusing. The wood version the similar as the brass bound or aluminum instantograph models. Although not described in the catalogue the back is depicted with a rapid plate change mechanism. Also note in 1894 this camera is referred to as the Portable Instantograph in a Lancaster ad. Both provided double swing back, rising front, best lens and a see-saw shutter. Made in quarter plate, half plate and full plate sizes. Sold as a complete set of camera, lens, shutter, slide and stand and price from £2 2s to £6 6s.
