Instantograph, Aluminum Mounted Camera

The Aluminum Mounted Instantograph camera was manufactured by J. Lancaster & Son of Birmingham, England from approximately 1892 to 1915. Aluminum was used for the bindings, front stage, plates, brackets and screws to increase portability and significantly reduced weight. The camera was constructed of select mahogany with aluminum bounded corners. It has rising front, double swing back, long double extension bellows, and reversible back. Fitted with a Lancaster lens mounted in aluminum and the Lancaster patented aluminum See-Saw shutter. For an additional cost the camera was fitted with an optional Aluminum Rectigraph lens and aluminum see-saw shutter. The Aluminum Mounted Instantograph camera was available in quarter plate, half plate, full plate, 10 x 8 and 12 x 10 sizes. Prices ranged from £3 3s to £12 12s.
