The Newman & Guardia Universal Pattern camera was marketed from approximately 1905 to 1913. The universal cameras were essentially the modern versions of the Pattern B camera and the Special Pattern B camera. These cameras were easily adapted for wide angle, telephotographic and other special work and N & G described the universal camera as an instrument of perfection.
These cameras could be fitted with any lens, however the modern Pattern B was sold with a Zeiss Tessar 6.3 Anastigmat lens and the Special Pattern B was fitted with a Zeiss Series VIIa double protar.
Both cameras came in 1/4 plate, 5 x 4 inches, 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and 1/2 plate. Other sizes were made to order.
