Vive No. 4 Camera

The Vive no. 4 was manufactured from approximately 1897 to 1902. This camera was designed as a 4 x 5 camera capable of focusing with the Vive metal magazine rack and pinion carrier. It contained 12 metal combination glass plate and cut film holders with reducing holders. This camera included the Vive combination safety lens cap with three diaphragms. this was the first Vive to utilize a rack and pinion focusing magazine with an accurate focusing scale, capable of taking image two feet from the lens to landscape. Constructed of wood and covered in fine grain leather with a leather handle, dark sleeve and two large brilliant finders. The outside dimension measured 5 x 5 5/8 x 9 3/8 inches. The Vive no. 4 sold for $10.00.
