The Multiplying Camera was manufactured by the American Optical Company beginning in the early 1870s and has evolved over the some thirty years that it was produced. The model depicted in the illustration is from the late 1880s. Constructed of fine mahogany and supplied with nine gem tubes. The camera was capable of making seventy two, thirty six and eighteen gems on a 7 x 10 plate. The lens arrangement could be changed to achieve numerous sizes including Imperial, Victoria, Cabinet sized cards. priced at $100.
