The Boston Imperial Camera was manufactured by the American Optical Company and later by the Scovill and Adams company. It dates to circa 1890. The Boston Imperial Camera was the same as the Portrait camera, with the addition of an 8 x 10 carriage and an 8 x 10 holder and is used to make two imperials on an 8 x 10 or 4-4 plate,using one 4-4 lens, two cards on a 5 x 8 plate, using on-half size lens; two large panel pictures, 6 x 10 inches in size. starting at 11 x 14 inch size, but also available in 14 x 17, 17 x 20, 18 x 22, 20 x 24 (the 20 x 24 had an 11 x 14 carriage and holder instead of the 8 x 10).
