Folding Montauk, Style I was manufactured by G. Gennert from approximately 1898 to 1917. Constructed of select mahogany that is beautifully rounded and polished, accompanied with draw file finished and lacquered brass hardware, and seal grain leather covering. This camera contained all needed features of a hand camera, including: vertical and horizontal swing, rising and falling front, a side shift, rack and pinion focusing, spring actuated ground glass with panel door for viewing entire image and ensuring sharp focus, montauk brilliant finder, two tripod plates and removable front board so that multiple lens can be interchanged. This camera was originally fitted with Gennert rapid symmetrical lens and unicum time and instantaneous shutter, with iris diaphragm.
