The Golf Montauk was manufactured from approximately 1895 to 1901. It its construction is similar to the Cycle Golf Montauk IIA, including mahogany body, brass hardware and seal gain leather covering. Focusing was accomplished with the aid of a rack and pinion mechanism found on more expensive models. Additional features included rising and falling front, focusing scale, reversible finder, ground glass with a viewing door. Fitted with the Presto shutter with automatic speed regulator in its Iris diaphragm, double rapid rectilinear lens, corrected for color or sharpness of the image. This camera accommodated the Gennert bicycle clap for either tripod or hand camera photos. Advertised as an inexpensive and compact 4 x 5 camera, it was being offered in 1899 for $18.00.
