Special Camera by Lancaster

The Special (Patented) Camera was manufactured by J. Lancaster & Son from approximately 1890 to 1894. It was a high quality, portable, brass bound camera constructed of mahogany with a double extension leather bellows, adjusted via rack and pinion movement. It featured a rising and cross front with angular motions both vertical and horizontal, a double swing back and reversible frame with lateral hinges.

Sold with no lens or stand. Originally made in three sizes, a quarter plate, half plate and whole plate, with original prices ranging from £0 50s 0d to £0 106s 0d. In 1893 larger sizes were advertised to include 12 x 10 and 15 x 12 inches and pricing adjusted to range from £2 10s 0d to £8 15s 0d.
