The 35mm Vitomatic Ia and IIa were made from approximately 1960 to 1965 by Voightlander and Sohn A.G. of Braunschweig Germany. These cameras featured a coupled exposure meter and rangefinder. The exposure needle was visible in the view finder. The Ia and early IIa cameras were fitted with a Color-Skopar f2.8 50mm four element lens. Later IIa cameras had an optional upgraded faster Ultron lens. Both cameras mounted the lens in a Prontor 500 SLK-V shutter providing speeds upt o 1/500th of a second.
