Van Neck Camera by Watson & Sons

The Van Neck Hand Camera was manufactured by W. Watson & Sons in circa 1890. This camera was made in two sizes, a quarter plate (4 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches) with a magazine that holds twelve glass plates. Also a 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch size that would either be fitted with a magazine to hold twelve glass plates or with the Eastman Roll holder to hold seventy film exposures. The view finder was placed in the top middle of the camera and shown the exact size as photographed. The finder and the plate exposure are serviced by a single lens, so when the image in the finder is focused it is intern focused on the plate. Focus adjustment is accomplished by movement of a screw and a focusing scale without using the ground glass. fitted with a special rapid rectilinear lens and time and instantaneous shutter. The quarter plate magazine Van Neck camera sold for £10 10s. The 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch Van Neck camera sold for £9 10s fitted with the magazine and £10 0s if fitted with the Eastman Roll holder.
