The Alpha No. 1 Camera was manufactured by W. Watson & Sons from 1892 to approximately 1910. Designed as on of the first a self contained compact hand camera that is in a portable box. It was constructed of polished mahogany. It featured a an accurate focusing scale, ground glass screen in back for focus adjustment. A top mounted direct view finder can align image either by looking into or through it. Fitted with a rapid rectilinear lens and a special Thornton-Pickard time and instantaneous shutter, fitted with a Watson mechanical discharger. Made in three sizes, a quarter plate, a 5 x 4 inch and a half plate. Priced at £1 10 0, £1 15 0 and £2 10 0 respectively.
