The Century Camera, Model No. 40 was manufactured by the Century Camera Company from 1904 to 1908. Designed as a hand or tripod camera to meet the need for a moderate priced reliable camera. The camera was constructed of solid mahogany box with dovetail joints and covered in black leather. The brass hardware is highly polished and lacquered. The bed is highly polished mahogany and attached with piano hinge. The front provides a rising and falling adjustment with a patent automatic bed clamp. The front standard is constructed of brass except for the 5 x 7 model front which was made of mahogany wood. The back is reversible with automatic screen. A brass bound, hooded and reversible finder is provided for vertical or horizontal images. The camera was fitted with a Century Rapid Symmetrical lens and a Century Automatic, No. 3 shutter with operations for instantaneous, time and bulb exposures. Made in three sizes, 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch originally priced at $13.00, a 4 x 5 inch originally priced at $15.00 or a 5 x 7 inch size originally priced at $20.00.
