Royal Mail Stamp Camera

The Royal Mail Stamp Camera was manufactured by W. Butcher & sons in from approximately 1906 to 1917. Constructed of polished mahogany and brass hardware. Fitted with fifteen individual fixed-focus achromatic lens. The camera was capable of taking fifteen postage stamp portraits, 1 x 3/4 inches on a single quarter plate (3 1/4 x 4 1/4) at a single exposure. A guillotine shutter is controlled by the screw on top of the camera. The ground glass back assists in focusing and can be removed to accommodate a film plate. A mask can be used to print the images with an ornamental border costing 1s. Originally priced at 1 5s.
