Prim Camera

The Prim hand camera was manufactured by the W. Butcher & sons Ltd. company beginning in circa 1899. There were four Prim models all in quarter plate size. The cameras were constructed of mahogany and covered in leatherette. The metal hardware was polished and lacquered brass. The No. 1 was fitted with a single achromatic and a time and instantaneous shutter with adjustable speeds. The camera measures 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches and it weighs one-half pound. It was originally priced at 1 1s. The no. 3 was fitted with a achromatic rapid rectilinear lens with iris diaphragm and a roller blind shutter with speed indicator and pneumatic release. The no. 3 was originally priced at 2 10s.The no. 4 featured a full double extension bellows with rack and pinion, a rising front, a double achromatic rapid rectilinear lens. Originally priced at 4 10s.
